According to the Xinhua News Agency, there have been over ten thousand new translated versions of literature works in foreign languages every year for 9 years in a row. Some of the most famous literature works, such as Don Quixote and Le Rouge et le Noir, even have dozens of translated versions. As China continues to open up, increased external cultural exchange has given rise to a huge number of translations, making China a “translation power” in the world.

The number of translation providers is mushrooming. Experts noted, however, that the service quality and personnel management in Chinese translation industry need to be improved. Currently, there are over 3000 registered translation companies, and tens of thousands of companies that were registered as a consulting firm or publishing house but actually provide translation services.

To regulate the market, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine issued the Specification for Translation Service, which came into effect since June 1.
